college football • Quarterback Jordan Johnson has been reinstated to the Montana football team after his acquittal on a rape charge. Johnson was dismissed from the team under the UM student-athlete code of conduct after being charged last July with sexual intercourse without consent. He was acquitted Friday by a jury. Johnson appealed his suspension over the weekend and is back on the team immediately, school officials said Tuesday.
Johnson has two years of eligibility remaining. As a sophomore, he passed for 2,400 yards and 21 touchdowns and ran for 506 yards and four more scores in leading Montana to an 11-3 record and a spot in the semifinals of the 2011 Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.

McIlroy repents after quitting round
GOLF • Rory McIlroy says he should have finished his second round at the Honda Classic, telling Sports Illustrated magazine that "it was not the right thing to do" to walk out after eight holes of his second round in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. McIlroy was 7-over for the round and headed toward another missed cut when he hit his second shot into the water on the 18th and abruptly withdrew without finishing the hole. On his way to the parking lot, he reporters that his head was not in the right place. He later issued a statement that his wisdom tooth was causing pain.
The 23-year-old from Northern Ireland said in the interview Sunday that his lower wisdom teeth are growing sideways and he has been prescribed a painkiller, which he did not use Friday. Even so, he said it was frustration over his swing that led to him leaving.
"It was a reactive decision," McIlroy said. "What I should have done is take my drop, chip it on, try to make a 5 and play my hardest on the back nine, even if I shot 85. What I did was not good for the tournament, not good for the kids and the fans who were out there watching me. It was not the right thing to do."

SKIING • David Wise of the United States won his first halfpipe title at the world freestyle skiing championships. Wise earned 96.2 points on Tuesday in Oslo, Norway, from his first run, leading a 1-2 American finish. World Cup leader Torin Yater-Wallace followed with a first run of 95.6 and Thomas Krief of France was third.
Virginie Faivre of Switzerland regained the women’s title she won in 2009, rallying from third after the first run. She passed first-run leader Anais Caradeux of France and Ayana Onozuka of Japan with a total of 83.8 in the second run. Caradeux beat qualifying leader Onozuka by 0.2 points for the silver with 80.6.
