ECHL: Grizzlies, Bulls complete seven-player trade
West Valley City • The Utah Grizzlies have completed a seven-player trade with the San Francisco Bulls, director of hockey operations and coach Kevin Colley announced Tuesday.
The Grizzlies acquired rookie forwards Jordan Clendenning, Sebastien Trudeau and Jonathan Lessard as well as rookie defenseman Clay Carlson.
Utah sent defenseman Mark Isherwood and forward Kory Falite to the Bulls. In addition, the Montreal Canadiens reassigned forward Ian Schultz, who has been playing for the Grizzlies, to San Francisco.
The ECHL trade deadline is Thursday at 1 p.m.
"We've had success integrating younger players into our program over the years and are aiming to finish the season strong," Colley said. "We haven't had a full team since the first week in November due to injuries, but we've hung in there and found a way to stay competitive under very trying circumstances."
After two deadline deals last year, Utah finished 8-3-0-1 and was the hottest team in the Western Conference entering the playoffs.
Carlson, 21, had five goals and 15 assists in 40 games with San Francisco and Gwinnett this year.
"Cody will contribute on the power-play and is solid in his own end," Colley said.
Clendenning, 26, had four goals and 15 assists in 56 games for the Bulls. He also had 110 penalty minutes. He played four years of college hockey and won two national championships at the University of New Brunswick.
"I've had my eye on Jordan all year, and I know he was a favorite in San Francisco," Colley said.
Trudeau and Lessard have been in San Francisco since January.
Trudeau, 21, had one goal and four assists in 20 games. He also played 35 games with Bloomington of the CHL, where he had 12 goals and 14 assists. Lessard, 22, had one goal and four assists in 23 games with San Francisco.
"Both Trudeau and Lessard bring skill and will have a chance right now to use it in our lineup," Colley said.
The Grizzlies return home Wednesday against Gwinnett at the Maverik Center. A three-game weekend series against Colorado begins Friday night.
