college athletics • The NCAA ousted its chief enforcement officer Monday in the wake of a report detailing missteps in the organization’s handling of a high-profile investigation of the University of Miami.
The NCAA’s president, Mark Emmert, said that he had appointed lawyer Jonathan Duncan as the interim vice president for enforcement, replacing Julie Roe Lach, a longtime NCAA employee who landed the job two years ago.

Emmert declined to comment on Roe Lach’s status during a call with reporters Monday in which he responded to the findings of an external investigation showing that NCAA investigators had violated internal protocols, acted against the advice of legal counsel and went beyond the organization’s own limits while looking for evidence in the Miami case.
Pac-12 reprimands coach over shove
college basketball • California coach Mike Montgomery was reprimanded by the Pac-12 on Monday for shoving one of his own players — star guard Allen Crabbe — in the chest during Cal’s 76-68 win over Southern California on Sunday night. The conference did not announce what specific punishment Montgomery received, although he will not be suspended. During a timeout early in the second half, Montgomery yelled at Crabbe for nonchalant play and then shoved him in the chest with both hands. Crabbe had to be restrained by teammates. Montgomery downplayed the run-in immediately after the game but later issued an apology through the school.
• Duke says former star Phil Henderson has died. Coach Mike Krzyzewski said that Henderson’s mother told him that her son died Sunday at his home in the Philippines at age 44. No cause of death was given. Henderson was a captain and the leading scorer on the 1989-90 Duke team that lost to UNLV in the national championship game.
