Sports briefs: Utah State hires defensive coordinator

College football • Utah State football coach Matt Wells has hired Todd Orlando as the Aggies' new defensive coordinator.

Orlando served as defensive coordinator at Florida International the past two seasons, and spent 12 years as an assistant coach, including six as defensive coordinator, at UConn.

Nadal wins first title since injury

TENNIS • Rafael Nadal beat David Nalbandian 6-2, 6-3 in the Brazil Open final, winning his first title since returning from a seven-month layoff to treat his left knee.

• Defending champion Victoria Azarenka stunned Serena Williams 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-3 to win the Qatar Open in Doha, earning her 16th title and ending a 10-match losing streak against the American.

Donovan to rejoin Galaxy in March

SOCCER • Landon Donovan plans to rejoin the Los Angeles Galaxy during the final week of March after a break of almost four months. The 30-year-old midfielder and forward, a veteran of three World Cups with the United States, had said last fall he was uncertain whether he wanted to continue playing.
