Logan • Utah State got within four points at the end, but through either nerves or fatigue, the Aggies couldn’t get a win.

UT Arlington roughed the home team up for a 74-68 defeat on Thursday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Utah State shot poorly and rebounded worse to get in the hole, and couldn’t make a last-minute comeback.

Spencer Butterfield was far and away the Aggies’ top player in the contest. The junior guard hustled his way to 23 points and 11 rebounds on 7-for-14 shooting. But no other Aggie made a field goal for a 15-minute stretch in the second half, as USU struggled for 32.1 percent from the floor after halftime.

The Mavericks wore down the nine-man Utah State roster, muscling for 23 second-half rebounds. They also dominated the paint, outscoring the Aggies 24-14 inside.
