Utah State: 52 USU athletes receive academic all-WAC honors

Logan • The Western Athletic Conference announced its fall all-academic teams Tuesday and Utah State had 52 student-athletes recognized from the sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball to rank second in the WAC.

Of its 52 academic all-WAC selections, Utah State had 18 student-athletes from football honored, along with 11 student-athletes from soccer, eight from both women's cross country and volleyball, and seven from men's cross country. Football's 18 honorees were tied for the most in the conference in that sport, while volleyball's eight selections were second.

New Mexico State led the WAC with 58 all-academic honorees and Utah State was second with its 52 honorees. Seattle was third with 41 academic all-WAC performers, followed by San Jose State (38), Texas State (35), Idaho (34), UTSA (33), Denver (26), Louisiana Tech (23) and UT Arlington (6).

Senior Ruth Hilton, who competes in cross country, and both indoor and outdoor track for Utah State, has now earned academic all-WAC honors 10 times in his career, including three times in cross country.

Fellow senior cross country/track athlete Stephanie Burt has now earned academic all-conference honors seven times, including three times in cross country, while senior cross country/track athlete Kaylee Campbell earned her seventh academic all-WAC honor and her third in cross country.

Junior cross country/track athlete Kyle McKenna also earned his seventh academic all-WAC honor this fall, including his second in cross country.

Student-athletes who are earning academic all-WAC honors for the fourth time include track athletes David Cluff, Eric Shellhorn and Brittany Bushman, and football player Kellen Bartlett, while three-time honorees include track athlete Ashley Robison, soccer players Mari Miyashiro and Natalie Norris, volleyball players, Kassi Hargrove, Shay Sorensen and Josselyn White, and football players McKade Brady, Forrest Dabb, Jake Doughty, Jamie Markosian, Travis Reynolds, Eric Schultz and Brad Theurer.

Furthermore, of the 52 student-athletes to earn fall academic all-WAC honors for Utah State, 38 are receiving the accolade for at least the second time.
