College basketball: Colorado upsets No. 16 Baylor
Charleston, S.C. • Askia Booker scored 19 points and Colorado survived some dreadful foul shooting down the stretch to hold off No. 16 Baylor 60-58 at the Charleston Classic on Friday.
The Buffaloes (3-0) advance to Sunday night's championship game. They also earned a measure of payback for last March, when the Bears (3-1) knocked them out in the NCAA tournament's third round.
It wasn't easy for Colorado, though, which went 4-of-18 from the foul line.
"That's when you rely on defense and rebounding," Colorado coach Tad Boyle said.
Andre Roberson missed two free throws with 3.1 seconds left that gave Baylor one final chance. But 7-foot-1 Isaiah Austin's catch-and-shoot attempt was off the right rim as the buzzer sounded.
Saint Joseph's 79, No. 20 Notre Dame 70, OT • In New York, Ronald Roberts had 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead Saint Joseph's to an overtime victory over No. 20 Notre Dame in the semifinals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic night at Barclays Center. The Hawks will play Florida State in Saturday night's championship game. The Seminoles beat BYU 88-70.
No. 4 Stanford 71, No. 1 Baylor 69 • Stanford snapped defending national champion Baylor's 42-game winning streak Friday in Honolulu, winning when player of the year Brittney Griner missed a short turnaround at the buzzer. Griner scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half, helping the Lady Bears rally from a 14-point deficit in the first half. Her shot at the buzzer bounced off the rim. Chiney Ogwumike scored 18 points to lead the Cardinal.
