West Valley City — Utah Grizzlies defenseman Drew MacKenzie was named the ECHL's Plus Performer of the Month for October, the league announced Thursday.

MacKenzie had a plus-minus rating of +8 as the Grizzlies opened the season with five wins in their first six games.

Under contract to Abbotsford of the American Hockey League, MacKenzie is in his first professional season. He has one goal and two assists in five games with the Grizzlies.

A seventh-round draft pick by the Buffalo Savres in the 2007 NHL entry draft, MacKenzie played four seasons at the University of Vermont. He finished his collegiate career with 17 goals and 47 assists in 133 games.

In recogniztion for his Plus Performer of the Month award, MacKenzie will be recognized during an on-ice ceremony at the Utah-Stockton game Nov. 12 at the Maverik Center.

Utah returns to the ice Friday night at Idaho. The Grizzlies play seven of their next eight games on the road.
