A season that opened amid the pyrotechnics and visceral emotion of Tuesday's victory over the Boston Celtics will continue for the Miami Heat with a second game played amid even more pronounced circumstances.
Wednesday, the same day the NBA postponed Thursday's game between the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets due to the ruinous aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the league announced Friday's game between the Knicks and Heat at Madison Square Garden would be played as scheduled.
The NBA's confirmation to the South Florida Sun Sentinel of the plans for Friday's Heat-Knicks game came shortly after New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the postponement of what would have been the first game in Brooklyn's new Barclays Center.
New York Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald told reporters Wednesday afternoon that Heat-Knicks would be played as scheduled Friday, saying, "We're good to go."

Warriors • Golden State point guard Stephen Curry has signed a $44 million, four-year contract extension that will keep him with the club through the 2016-17 season.

Clippers • Matt Barnes missed the Los Angeles Clippers' season opener on Wednesday night while serving a one-game suspension issued by the NBA after he pleaded no contest last month to a misdemeanor for resisting, delaying or obstructing a police officer.
Spurs • San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili sat out the season opener against New Orleans because of back spasms.
Ginobili missed half of the team's eight preseason games because of back problems, a troubling sign for the aging Spurs. Coach Gregg Popovich says it's vital that they keep the 30-somethings — Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Ginobili — healthy.
