State colleges: UCLA beats Utah in women's soccer

The No. 3-ranked UCLA women's soccer team defeated Utah 2-0 Sunday in Los Angeles.

Chelsea Cline scored 13 minutes into the game for the Bruins (14-0-2, 7-0-1 Pac-12), and Rosie White added an insurance goal in the 85th minute.

Goalkeeper Lindsey Luke kept the Utes (8-6-2, 3-5-0) within striking distance for most of the game, finishing with eight saves.

UCLA dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Utah 22-2 overall and putting 10 shots on frame to Utah's one. Corner kicks went 9-0 for the Bruins, while fouls were whistled 6-4 against the Utes.

"I think we showed tremendous character and competitive spirit again today, and we really rose to the challenge on defense," Utah coach Rich Manning said. "We were playing against a very talented group of attacking players and we put up a fantastic defense effort."

Eastern Washington 1, Southern Utah 0 • In Cedar City, Torri Stitzman scored in the 15th minute, and the Eagles held on for the win.
