Colorado Springs • Spencer Wright has been named the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's Rookie of the Year in saddle bronc riding.

Wright is a member of the famous Milford, Utah, rodeo family.

His brother, Cody, is a two-time world saddle bronc champion. Another brother, Jesse, heads into this year's Wrangler National Finals Rodeo as the leading money winner in the event. A third brother, Jake, will join Cody and Jesse at the NFR in December.

Spencer Wright earned $32,336 this season, more than double of any other first-year saddle bronc rider, according to the PRCA. He finished 29th in the world standings.

"It's good to get your name out there instead of always being known just as Cody or Jesse's little brother," Spencer Wright said. "I don't have a big problem with that or anything, but I'd rather be known as the Rookie of the Year. ...

"I think I had a really good year, and I wasn't disappointed at all. I wish I would've come on a little bit earlier, but I thought I ended up right around where I should've been in the standings."

The other Resistol Rookies of the Year are Dakota Eldridge (all-around and steer wrestling), Austin Foss (bareback riding), Tyler Wade (team roping-header), Clint Summers (team roping-heeler), Reese Riemer (tie-down roping), Joe Wells (steer roping), Trey Benton III (bull riding) and Emily Efurd (barrel racing).
