While BYU fans await more specific news regarding the status of freshman quarterback Taysom Hill, Oregon State fans learned Monday afternoon that their star quarterback, Sean Mannion, also has a knee injury. However, Mannion will need surgery, coach Mike Riley told the Oregonian newspaper, and is out indefinitely. He will definitely miss Saturday's game against BYU at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Cody Vaz, who has thrown 17 passes in his college career and hasn't played since 2010, will most likely be the Beavers' starting quarterback for the 1:30 p.m. game in Provo. It is obviously a big blow to the 4-0 Beavers, since Mannion was the Pac-12 player of the week two weeks ago after throwing for more than 400 yards in a come-from-behind win at Arizona. Vaz will face a BYU defense that has not allowed an offensive touchdown the last 13 quarters.
