West Valley City • Six players were assigned Monday to the Utah Grizzlies by the parent Calgary Flames and their American Hockey League affiliate in Abbotsford, B.C.

The group includes Nick Tuzzolino, Mitch Wahl, Gaelan Patterson, Ryan Howse, Bryan Camero and James Martin.

Tuzzolino, 26, was the Grizzlies' captain in 2011-2012 and enters his third year with Utah. He had seven goals and 19 assists in 60 games last season. He also played 11 games with Abbotsford and three with Lake Erie of the AHL.

Wahl, 22, returns to Utah after totaling 20 goals and 20 assists in 38 games last year. He was Calgary's second-round pick in the 2008 NHL entry draft. He also played 27 games in the AHL last year.

Howse, 21, was a third-round selection in the 2009 draft. He had six goals and three assists in 39 games during his rookie season in Abbotsford. He scored 51 goals and added 32 assists in 70 games with the Chilliwack Bruins of the WHL in 2010-2011 — his final year of major junior hockey.

Martin, 21, spent last year in Abbotsford. As a rookie, he played in 28 games and finished with two goals and one assist.

Cameron, 23, a third-round draft pick in 2007, had seven goals and four assists in 20 games with Utah last year. He enters his third professional season.

Patterson, 22, played 56 games in Abbotsford last year. He had one goal and five assists. He joined Utah for the final five games of the regular season and the playoffs, finishing with two goals and two assists in eight games.

The Grizzlies open the ECHL's regular season Friday in Idaho. Their home opener is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday against the Steelheads at the Maverik Center. —
