Cedar City — Southern Utah cornerback Tyree Mills has been suspended from the team indefinitely, Southern Utah football coach Ed Lamb announced Monday. SUU spokesman Neil Gardner said details of Mills' situation remain incomplete, but it appeared he had been arrested by campus police late Saturday night, hours after the Thunderbirds' 24-17 loss to Montana State. Gardner said the arrest apparently stemmed from allegations Mills had not paid fines imposed in connection to earlier, unspecified misdemeanor theft and assault charges. Mills was released on $1,510 bail Sunday. His status with the team is uncertain. Gardner said the school was preparing a statement for release later Monday, but until then he had no further comment on the matter. Mills joined the football team in spring 2010 as a walk-on out of John Muir High School in Pasadena, Calif., where he lettered in football, basketball and track. While he has played as a cornerback at SUU, in his prep years he had stints as a quarterback, receiver and defensive back.— Bob Mims
