Cedar City • Southern Utah cornerback Tyree Mills has been suspended indefinitely, coach Ed Lamb announced Monday.
Mills was arrested over the weekend for unpaid fines in connection with two incidents, which resulted in an assault charge and a theft charge being filed against him.
According to an SUU press release, the assault charge was brought in March of 2011 after Mills allegedly shot an air-soft pellet gun at another student.
The theft charge was filed last April after Mills removed a parking boot from his car, which was placed by campus security for failure to pay parking tickets.
In a statement Monday afternoon, Lamb said, "Tyree is immediately and indefinitely suspended from all association with SUU football."
Mills was arrested late Saturday night, just hours after the Thunderbirds lost to second-ranked Montana State, 24-17. He was released Sunday on $1,510 bail.
Mills joined the Southern Utah football team in 2010 as a walk-on out of John Muir High School in Pasadena, Calif., where he lettered in football, basketball and track.
