Get your mind wrapped around this.
The Western Athletic Conference, for all of its depletions, for all of its misgivings, could have a heck of a league this year. At least at the top of the heap.

Louisiana Tech is unbeaten, having gone on the road and destroyed Illinois 52-24. San Jose State is 3-1, has a road win at San Diego State and almost beat Stanford on the road. And then there's Utah State. The Aggies are 3-1 for the first time since 1978, and could be 5-1 when they matchup with the Spartans in the first week of WAC play.
By that time? Louisiana Tech should be ranked in the top 25. Utah State could be ranked, and San Jose could be close.
It's a bad time for the WAC to basically be folding football operations.
Everyone expected the Bulldogs to be good. Indeed, this may be their best team in school history. Insiders thought the Aggies had a decent shot at being good, but not many thought they would be this good. Nobody expected the Spartans to do what they're doing.
It goes to show that a conference can survive and be resilient. Even with a number of schools jumping ship.
Next year, however, all three schools will be elswhere. And the WAC will be gone.
Sad indeed.
