One of Utah's best recruiters may not be a coach or even a player who has suited up for the Utes.

At least in the case of 6-foot-5 point guard Delon Wright, who committed to the Utes on Thursday, senior guard Jarred DuBois was as key as any of the coaches. Wright, who attended Leuzinger High School in Los Angeles and is now in his second year at San Francisco City College, knew DuBois, a Loyola Marymount transfer, from L.A., and said he was "like a kind of older brother to me."

Of course, DuBois will be gone by the time Wright becomes a Ute in 2013, but he will still be greeted by a coaching staff with which he says he connected immediately and high expectations. He will have two years of eligibility remaining when he joins the program.

The younger brother of Philadelphia 76ers forward Dorell Wright, Delon Wright is the reigning MVP of the North Coast Conference, and was the Division I CIF player of the year in high school. Wright said he was sold on the Utes last week during a campus visit that included attending the Utah-BYU football game.

"I really wanted to go to a school that had a good sports tradition," he said. "I just liked the coaches and the players."

Wright has to immediately be included among coach Larry Krystkowiak's most impressive commitments since taking over the program in 2010. The guard, who also plays shooting guard, was also being recruited by Washington, Washington State, St. Mary's and Gonzaga.

"I Just felt there was no need to focus on any other schools," Wright said, "because I knew where I wanted to go."
