Washington • D.C. United captain and reigning MLS MVP Dwayne De Rosario will likely miss the rest of the season with a sprained left knee.

The club announced Thursday that the midfielder-forward will be sidelined 10 to 12 weeks with the injury, which he suffered while playing for Canada in a 2-0 loss to Panama on Tuesday.

Under that timeline, De Rosario will miss the rest of the regular season and might return only if United advance deep into the playoffs.

De Rosario has seven goals this season and ranks second in the league with 12 assists. Last month he became the seventh MLS player to reach the 100-goal mark. He is also Canada's all-time goal-scoring leader.
