State colleges: BYU volleyball sweeps Utah

No. 21 BYU easily dispatched Utah in straight sets — 25-14, 25-15, 26-24 — in Provo. Jennifer Hamson had 16 kills for BYU, and Jessica Jardine added 11 kills and seven digs.

For Utah, Chelsey Schofield and led with eight kills and two digs and Morgan Odale had a team-high eight digs and six kills. BYU ended with a .327 hitting percentage to top Utah's .158.

Utah came close to BYU only in the third set, which was tied five times.

Saint Mary's 3, Utah State 0 • The Aggies fell in straight sets — 17-25, 22-25, 23-25 — in Manhattan, Kan. Shay Sorensen led USU with 12 kills, six digs and five blocks.

Weber State 3, Southern 0; Weber State 3, Southeastern Louisiana 1 • The Wildcats won both their Friday matches in Hammond, La., dropping only one set the whole night. Freshman Rebecca Fuchs had 31 kills and 18 digs in the two games at the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic.

Men's tennis

Four BYU players advanced to the semifinals of the Utah Fall Tennis Classic. BYU's doubles team of Patrick Kawka and Keaton Cullimore will face rival Utes Justin Archer and Rafael Davidian.

Women's soccer

Utah State 1, Eastern Washington 0 • The Aggies shut out the Eagles with an 84th-minute goal by Jade Tarver. The Aggies outshot EWU 17-9, and USU goalkeeper Ashlyn Mulford made six saves.

UTEP 3, Weber State 0 • The Wildcats were shut out in El Paso, Texas, as the Miners' first two goals came within two minutes of each other. UTEP added another goal in the 46th minute to bury Weber State, which was outshot 12-10. UTEP committed 10 fouls in the game.
