State colleges: Utah State women's soccer beats Utah in OT

Utah's women's soccer team fell to Utah State 1-0 in overtime in both teams' season opener at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy. USU's Jennifer Flynn scored the game-winner, which bounced off a Utah defender and past junior goalkeeper Cheyanne Mulcock.

Utah outshot Utah State 16-8, and the Utes had seven fouls called on them compared with the Aggies' six.

Utah State goalkeeper Ashlyn Mulford made seven saves.

Weber State 3, Tulsa 0 • Weber State fell on the road in its season opener on Friday. The Wildcats gave up all three goals in the first 16 minutes of the game,.

UTEP 2, Utah Valley 1 • The Wolverines gave up a goal in each half in a home loss Friday. Natalie Baker scored for UVU to tie the game in the 52nd minute, but UTEP knocked in the game-winner in the 89th minute.

BYU 3, UC Irvine 2 (OT) • UC Irvine scored a tying goal in the 89th minute, but the Cougars — who had relinquished a 2-0 lead — held on for the win, with BYU's Jaiden Thornock scoring in the 98th minute.

Volleyball

Westminster women's volleyball opened the season with two wins Friday, beating Oregon Tech 25-14, 26-24, 25-21, and UC-Merced 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 25-14.
