Tennis • Olympic champion Andy Murray won his opening match in the Rogers Cup on Wednesday, beating Italy's Flavio Cipolla 6-1, 6-3.

• Maria Sharapova withdrew from the Rogers Cup on Wednesday because of a stomach ailment.

The second-ranked Sharapova told organizers she picked up the bug at the London Olympics, where she lost the final to Serena Williams. Sharapova was replaced in the draw by Galina Voskoboeva.

Cincinnati coach chided for language

College Basketball • The NCAA has publicly reprimanded University of Cincinnati basketball coach Mick Cronin for bad language after the Bearcats' tournament loss to Ohio State.

The NCAA says its Division I men's basketball committee found that Cronin used "profane and abusive language" toward a game official.

• The Minnesota Supreme Court has overturned a $1 million award against the University of Minnesota and men's basketball coach Tubby Smith over the hiring of an assistant coach.

Jimmy Williams quit his job as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State in 2007 because he believed Smith had hiring authority when he offered him an assistant coaching job. Minnesota later withdrew the offer because Williams had NCAA rules violations during a previous stint as an assistant for the Golden Gophers more than 20 years ago.

Ronalda aids Real Madrid rout
