London • Jake Gibb helped keep the American dream for a gold medal in men's beach volleyball alive.

On Saturday, a day after defending Olympic champions Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser were eliminated in the round of 16, Gibb, from Bountiful, and his partner Sean Rosenthal reached the quarterfinals of the competition with a two-set win over a team of Russians.

The U.S. won 21-14, 22-20 over Konstantin Semenov and Sergey Prokopiev. They next play Latvians Martins Plavins and Janis Smedins Monday night.
