London • Former University of Utah star Shona Thorburn led all scorers with 18 points and the Canadian women's basketball team beat Great Britain 73-65 in pool play at the London Olympics.

Canada, which blew a 10-point lead in a loss to Russia on Saturday, improved to 1-1 in Group B. The top four teams advance to the tournament's knockout round.

One of three former or current Utes on the Canadian roster, Thorburn was 6-of-10 from the field, including a key 3-pointer late in the game, despite playing just shy of 22 minutes.

Thorburn's former teammate, Kim Smith, added 11 points for the Canadians, who play France on Tuesday.

Michelle Plouffe, who will be a junior at Utah this year, did not play.
