Luke Puskedra, a Judge Memorial High School grad from Ogden who ran collegiately at Oregon, finished eighth in the 10,000 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials for track and field on Friday night in Eugene, Ore.

Puskedra led the race briefly at almost the halfway mark, but couldn't keep up with blazing leaders Galen Rupp, Matt Tegenkamp and Dathan Ritzenhein — who finished 1-2-3 and earned spots at the London Olympics.

Rupp set a meet record by winning in 27 minutes and 25.33 seconds. Puskedra clocked 27:56.62 — some 17 seconds faster than his personal best.

Meanwhile, BYU's Nachelle Mackie and Katie Palmer both advanced to the semifinals in the women's 800 meters, running 2:03.30 and 2:03.66, respectively, in prelims, despite running in cool, rainy weather.
