Riverton's Brandon Watson reached the finals of the men's 3-meter springboard competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials for diving on Wednesday night, finishing 10th in the semifinals at the King County Aquatic Center outside of Seattle.

The top 12 divers reached the finals on Thursday.

But Watson is unlikely to finish in the top two, which is needed to qualify for the London Olympics. His score of 737.70 is far behind leader Kristian Ipsen at 993.80 and second-place Troy Dumais — a three-time Olympian — at 954.20.

A former Brigham Young University diver who was the swimming and diving athlete of the year in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Watson was 10th coming out of the preliminaries in Wednesday morning, as well.
