Real Salt Lake draws Tauro, Herediano for Champions League

Real Salt Lake will face Herediano of Costa Rica and Tauro FC of Panama in the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League later this summer, as the club aims to return to the tournament final that it lost last year.

The format for the tournament’s group stage has changed, however, since RSL lost to Monterrey of Mexico in the championship series.

Now, it includes eight groups of three teams each. Only the group winner will advance to the quarterfinals. Within each group, each teams plays the other two, both home and away.

Champions League group play begins July 31, with quarterfinals on March 5 of next year.
