The BYU women's softball team will open the 2012 NCAA softball championship Thursday against Mississippi State in Eugene, Ore.

The Cougars (43-13) have won 19 of their last 20 games, including a sweep of Louisiana Tech, No. 11 Hawaii and powerful Fresno State for the Western Athletic Conference championship.

BYU, Mississippi State (33-22), Portland State and the 11th seed Oregon will play a double-elimination regional tournament to advance to the Super Regionals.

Great West tournament • Utah Valley split two games Sunday in Farmers Branch, Texas, defeating North Dakota 3-2 and losing to Houston Baptist 3-2.

The Wolverines (30-26-1) play Nebraska-Omaha on Monday morning, with the winner advancing to play Houston Baptist for the conference title at noon.

Baseball

Oregon State 5, Utah 4 (10) • The Beavers rallied in the ninth, then scored in the 10th to defeat the Utes (13-35, 7-20 Pac-12) at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

UVU 11, NYIT 2 • The visiting Wolverines extended their winning streak to 32 games.
