Wrestler Rulon Gardner is finished.
Now living in Logan, the legendary former gold medalist did not show up to weigh-in Friday for the U.S. Olympic Trials, ending his attempt to return to his sport and compete at the 2012 London Olympics this summer.
Gardner needed to weigh less than 264.5 pounds to qualify for the trials, and told the Denver Post earlier this week that he was close to making weight.
"I'm disappointed I didn't make the weigh in. I worked hard. I was within five pounds," Garnder said in a statement to USA Wrestling. "I'm glad I did this and have my health back. I'll talk more about my journey tomorrow."
Gardner won gold at the 2000 Sydney Games by shockingly ending Russian Alexander Karelin's 13-year undefeated streak, and retired after earning bronze at the 2004 Athens Games.
His weight eventually ballooned to 474 pounds, before appearing on the "Biggest Loser" reality show and getting down to 289 before quitting the show. He had been training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, hoping for one last shot at the Olympics.
