The new organizers of the Salt Lake City Marathon have received "conditional approval" from the city to hold their race as scheduled on April 21, and a city spokesman said there is "no reason for us to believe they won't complete the necessary requirements" to get a final city permit.
Organizers sent an email to prospective runners Friday headlined: "We're ready, are you?"
The email urged runners to register and told them race organizers had received a conditional permit from the city for the event, which includes a marathon, a half-marathon, a 5K and a bike tour.
"We are working hard to make sure you have the best race experience possible," it said.
The race has been in question since the new owners, U.S. Road Sports, bought it from embattled previous owner Chris Devine just days before an initial permitting deadline last month.
New owner Peter Handy and his company have scrambled to line things up quickly, and are on the verge of succeeding. They have until April 4 to submit all the final details of their permit request to the city, and city spokesman Art Raymond said there's nothing that suggests that will not happen."There's nothing out of the ordinary," Raymond said.
