MLB • NL Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a salary arbitration hearing next week, agreeing Tuesday to a $19 million, two-year contract. Kershaw was 21-5 with a 2.28 ERA and 248 strikeouts last year.
• Oakland Athletics owner Lew Wolff said that the team has agreed to extend the contracts of the general manager Billy Beane and team president Michael Crowley through the 2019 season.

• The New York Yankees agreed to a minor league contract with utilityman Bill Hall and invited him to big league spring training. The 32-year-old played with Houston and San Francisco last season.
Memphis plans move to Big East
COLLEGE ATHLETICS • Memphis is the latest school to sign up for a spot in the new Big East. The Tigers will join the league for the 2013-14 season and compete in all sports, according to an anonymous source, becoming the fourth Conference USA team to move to the Big East in the past two months, along with Houston, Central Florida and SMU.
• The Big Ten, which helped squash the notion of a four-team playoff to crown a national champion in college football several years ago, is taking another look. Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis said all of the Big Ten athletic directors are comfortable exploring the possibility of a four-team playoff.
Agency requests Armstrong files
CYCLING • The World Anti-Doping Agency in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Tuesday urged U.S. federal authorities to hand over evidence collected in their probe into seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong and doping in American cycling. WADA president John Fahey said federal agencies in the United States gathered "significant evidence" in the criminal investigation that was abruptly closed last week with no charges filed and no explanation given.
