Guthrie, the Orioles’ opening day starter three of the past four seasons, lost 17 games last season, the most in the American League, and finished with a 4.33 ERA.

The 32-year-old agreed to a one-year, $8.2 million contract with the Rockies, avoiding an arbitration hearing that had been scheduled for Monday in St. Petersburg, Fla. He’s eligible to become a free agent after the season.

Around the horn

Nationals • Washington agreed to a minor league contract with outfielder Rick Ankiel. The 32-year-old Ankiel batted .239 with nine home runs and 37 RBIs in 122 games last season with the Nationals.

Mariners • Seattle agreed to one-year contracts with pitchers Shawn Camp and Hong-Chih Kuo. Kuo was an All-Star in 2010 with the Dodgers but struggled last season with a back problem early in the season and missed a month with an anxiety disorder. Camp led Toronto with 67 appearances last year and was 6-3 with a 4.21 ERA.

Braves • Atlanta unveiled a new alternate home uniform that is based on the attire worn when the team moved from Milwaukee in 1966, with Hank Aaron as its biggest star. The cream-colored uniforms feature the customary Braves script across the front, but without the tomahawk that is below the nickname on the regular home white jerseys. There is a patch on the arms with two crisscrossing tomahawks and the year "1876" — when the franchise was founded in Boston.
