UVU edges Houston Baptist

Houston • Utah Valley had four players score in double-digits and Houston Baptist’s rally fell short as the Wolverines won 68-66 Saturday night.

Isiah Williams scored 16 points and Ben Aird added 13 for Utah Valley (15-10), which nearly relinquished a 65-61 lead with 1:22 remaining. Houston Baptist (7-15) got to within 67-66 on a 3-pointer from Jonathan Evans with 11 seconds left. After succumbing to a Houston Baptist foul, Keith Thompson made the first free throw and missed the second, allowing Geddes Robinson to grab the offensive board to seal the win.

The Huskies led 61-60 with 2:48 remaining after Terry Bembry netted a free throw, but the Wolverines retaliated with five unanswered points. Bembry led all scorers with 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting.

Houston Baptist led only twice in the second half and trailed 31-27 at halftime.Marcus Davis added 13 points for the Huskies. South Dakota St. 66, Southern Utah 56 • In Brookings, S.D., Nate Wolters scored 31 points and South Dakota State won for the 10th time in its past 12 games.

Ray Jones Jr. led Southern Utah (12-12, 7-7 Summit League) with 18 points. Ramell Taylor added 13 points and nine rebounds but also had eight of the Thunderbirds’ 18 turnovers.

Griffan Callahan added 10 points for the Jackrabbits (19-6, 11-2).

Westminster 70, Montana Tech 61 • Jordan Hayter scored 19 points to lead the Griffins (17-8, 5-4 Frontier Conference) to the win.

SLCC 86, Colorado Northwestern 61 • In Rangley, Colo., Skylar Halford scored 16 points, Davis Emery added 11, and the Bruins (19-5, 6-3 SWAC) rallied from a 12-point deficit for the win.
