ECHL: Utah Grizzlies’ late lead evaporates in 6-4 loss to Ontario
First Published Feb 04 2012 10:56 pm • Last Updated Feb 05 2012 12:17 am

Utah had a 4-3 lead in the third period but a late onslaught by the visiting Ontario Reign doomed the Grizzlies to a 6-4 loss Saturday in front of 6,190 Maverik Center fans.

Utah took a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the game as John Armstrong fired the puck off of Ontario goalie Chris Carrozzi and into the net. The Reign knotted it at 1-1 less than a minute later.

With 17 seconds left in the first period, Utah took a 2-1 lead after Kory Falite redirected a Paul McIlveen centering attempt. Then, just 27 seconds into the second period, a Ryan Turek slapshot gave the Grizzlies a 3-1 lead.

Ontario scored twice in the second to tie it at 3, and Utah took the lead 7:34 into the third period on a Mitch Wall power-play goal.

The Reign scored three straight to finish the game, which took a strange turn in warmups as Reign players fired pucks toward the Utah end of the ice.

Three players from each team received game misconducts as minor skirmishes began as the teams lined up at center ice. Because of the penalties, the teams each had just 13 skaters for the contest.
