Utah Jazz defeat L.A. Lakers 96-87

Al Jefferson scored 18 points and Paul Millsap added 16 to lead the Utah Jazz to a 96-87 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night at EnergySolutions Arena.

The First: Lakers 25, Jazz 22

After Josh Howard caps an 8-3 run with a three-point play, the Jazz own a 13-11 lead. But Kobe Bryant scores seven of his eight points in the final 3:25 and Los Angeles, behind 50 percent shooting, takes the lead.

The Second: Lakers 49, Jazz 47

The Lakers own a 35-31 lead before a 7-2 burst by the Jazz, who take a one-point advantage on Raja Bell's 3. But L.A. converts six of its final seven possessions, including back-to-back jumpers by Bryant.

The Third: Jazz 67, Lakers 67

The Jazz manage one free throw from their first seven possessions. The Lakers get two free throws out of their first six possessions. Utah builds a 67-64 lead before Matt Barnes closes the quarter with a 3-pointer.

The Fourth: Jazz 96, Lakers 87

The Jazz own a 69-68 lead when they stop the Lakers on eight straight possessions. Utah scores 13 straight points, including four by C.J. Miles. It's 82-68 with six minutes left. The Lakers don't get closer than six down the stretch.
