SACRAMENTO, Calif.• Southern Utah’s women gymnasts led up to the final rotation, but untimely falls from the beam gave home-standing Sacramento State a 193.725 to 192.800 win Friday night.

SUU had battled back from falls by Brooke Cersosimo and Lauren Jeffrey in the opening bar rotation. Going into the fateful final rotation, the Thunderbirds led by five-tenths of a point.

SUU opened its beam rotation going 4-for-4 with Alyssa Click leading the way with a first-place mark of 9.850. Caitlin Kennedy was close behind in second place with a 9.775, giving her nothing lower than a 9.750 during the meet. However, falls from the final two Thunderbird gymnasts coupled with a 49.050 by the Hornets on floor gave Sacramento State the final victory.

SUU’s loss to the Hornets was its first since the 2008 season and snapped a three-meet Thunderbird winning streak against Sacramento State.
