Provo • Without standout sophomore Taylor Sander, the No. 1-ranked BYU men’s volleyball team lost to No. 7 Stanford in four sets at Smith Fieldhouse on Friday night.
Brian Cook had a match-high 20 kills for the Cardinal, who won 25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 20-18.

Futi Tavana had a team-high 13 kills for the Cougars, who host Stanford again at 7 p.m. Saturday.
"I thought Stanford played really good volleyball tonight," BYU coach Chris McGown said. "They have a lot of nice athletes on that team."
Men’s tennis
BYU 7, Idaho 0; BYU 6, Montana State 1 • In Provo, the Cougars snapped a four-match losing streak with two home victories.
Women’s tennis
Long Beach State 6, BYU 1 • In Long Beach, Calif., Megan Price won in singles, defeating Laura Bernard 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 as the Cougars fell to the No. 38-ranked 49ers.
New Mexico 4, Utah State 3 • In Bozeman, Mont., the Aggies won the double point, but fell short in singles competition against the Lobos.
