Weber State basketball: Mahoney earns academic honor

First Published Feb 03 2012 10:05 am • Last Updated Feb 08 2012 04:59 pm

There’s more to Weber State’s Darin Mahoney than basketball. The senior forward has already graduated with a Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree and is currently on course for a master’s degree in Business and Health Administration.

That has earned Mahoney Academic All-District honors. He was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII men’s basketball first team, announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Mahoney, Heber City, one of five athletes named to the District VIII All-District first team, is the only player from a university in Utah. The five athletes will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-American honors.

Mahoney averages four points and six rebounds for the Wildcats (17-4, 9-1 Big Sky). Weber State hosts Northern Colorado at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Dee Events Center.
