The new MetLife Stadium is in East Rutherford, N.J., in the most euphemistically named area in America: the Meadowlands. It’s located at Exit 16W off the New Jersey Turnpike, and there’s not much else there, although New York City is in view.

The Patriots play halfway at Gillette Stadium located between Boston and Providence, R.I., in Foxborough, Mass., an actual town with historical sites, a high school and everything.

Jon Bon Jovi grew up in New Jersey and became friends with Patriots coach Bill Belichick when each was in the early stages of his professional career. He later became an Arena Football League owner.

Boston-based Aerosmith features frontman Steven Tyler, a friend of Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Tyler sang the national anthem before the AFC championship game.

Famous Jazz figures

Frank Layden, the Jazz’s longtime coach and executive, was born in Brooklyn. When he resigned as coach, the team retired jersey No. 1 in his honor.

Boston native John Amaechi had an undistinguished stint with the Jazz. His No. 26 will not be retired, even after Kyle Korver wore the number well.
