Feb. 20 — American Jim Shea claims one of the most emotional victories of the Games by winning the men’s skeleton four weeks after the death of his grandfather, who was a speedskating gold medalist 70 years earlier. Teammates Tristan Gale and Lea Ann Parsley win gold and silver in the women’s skeleton, while short-track speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno bounces back from a crash to win the 1,500 meters when rival Kim Dong-Sung of South Korea is controversially disqualified. Croatia’s Janica Kostelic wins gold in the women’s slalom — her third medal of the Games — while Norway’s Ole Einar Bjoerndalen picks up his fourth gold in the biathlon relay. Germany’s Anni Friesinger breaks her own world record in winning the women’s 1,500 in speedskating.
