State colleges: UVU men’s basketball beats Hampton

Chattanooga, Tenn. • Keith Thompson’s put-back with 5.5 seconds left lifted Utah Valley to a 42-40 win over Hampton in the opening game of the Dr Pepper Classic on Thursday. The Wolverines (7-8) now advance to the championship game on Friday.

Texas Wesleyan 79, Westminster 75 • In New Orleans, the Griffins outshot the Rams 50 percent to 47 percent but it wasn’t enough to beat Texas Wesleyan (7-2) at the Big Easy Challenge on Thursday.

SLCC 81, Tucson Sol 67 • In Phoenix, sophomore Marisa Robbins finished with a triple-double, collecting 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in SLCC’s win Thursday.
