West Valley City • The Utah Grizzlies' recent misfortune was summerized during a five-minute stretch midway through the second period Friday night.
Tied with Colorado at the time, the Grizzlies squandered an extended power play.
Not only did Utah fail to score, it barely pressured Eagle goalie Kyle Jones.
Once Colorado killed the penalty, it dominated the rest of the game and rolled to a 3-2 ECHL victory at the Maverik Center.
The loss, which was not as close as the final score indicates because of a Jeff Lampl goal with 26 seconds remaining, was Utah's fifth straight.
"We've got to find ways to not feel sorry for ourselves," coach Kevin Colley said. "We're obviously in a little bit of a funk. But we have to find a way to get out of it with some simple hockey and sticking together."
After a scoreless first period, goals by Colorado's Riley Nelson and the Grizzlies' Mitch Fadden made it 1-1. Then the Eagles' Alex Penner was called for head-butting.
Penner was given a major penalty and two game misconducts one for flashing an obscene gesture and the Grizzlies had a chance to seize the lead.
Instead, Utah managed only a couple of harmless shots that Jones easily stopped.
"It's disappointing," Colley said, "when we go out there as a five-man unit and get outworked. ... We just lost our emotion, somehow."
Colorado snapped the tie when Nelson scored his second goal with 22 seconds left in the second period.
The Grizzlies had just finished killing a penalty but could not clear the puck out of their own end when Nelson beat Utah goalie Shane Owen.
Colorado's Aaron Schneekloth made it 3-1 at 5:33 of the third period before Lampl finished the scoring with a goal that disguised the Eagles' domination over the final 30 minutes.
