The Utah Blaze assigned veteran defensive back David Hyland for the 2012 roster, reuniting the former Morehead State player with Blaze defensive coordinator Mike Brown and former Utah Ute quarterback Tommy Grady. The group previously played together during the 2010 season for the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz.

"David is an exceptional talent who has great ball skills and knowledge of the arena game," coach Ron James said. "As we build a strong team for the 2012 season, it is vital that we add playmakers to the defensive side of the ball. We're excited to sign a player of David's caliber and look forward to his contributions to our football team."

Hyland, 24, has spent the past two seasons in the Canadian Football League with the BC Lions and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
