Real Salt Lake trades Alexandre for draft pick
Real Salt Lake midfielder Jean Alexandre was traded to San Jose on Thursday for a first-round pick in the 2012 Supplemental Draft.
Alexandre, a native of Verrettes, Haiti, had struggled to find a place on the field during his three seasons with RSL. This season, Alexandre scored a goal and had two assists in 19 games, including nine starts.
The 12th player selected in the first round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, Alexandre scored 34 goals (including 10 game-winners) and added 16 assists during his 69-game career at Lynn University.
Alexandre collected Real Salt Lake's Humanitarian of the Year award in 2010 and 2011 not only for his work in the local community, but also for his efforts on behalf of the Jean Alexandre Football Academy, which provides children in Haiti the opportunity to learn valuable skills both on the soccer field and in the classroom.
Alexandre has represented Haiti at the Senior International on 11 occasions (2 goals), most recently in a pair of CONCACAF region World Cup Qualifying contests against Antigua and Barbuda in mid-November.
