The Utah Blaze continue their offseason adjustments, announcing Wednesday that the team has hired Arena Football League veteran Mike Brown as defensive coordinator.

Brown spent seven years in the AFL, the last two with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs and the Philadelphia Soul. On both teams, Brown was permitted by his coaches to call defensive plays. His other coaching experience is for his high school alma mater Watkins Mill in Maryland.

"As a defensive coach, he brings a wealth of playing experience and expertise to the secondary table," Blaze coach and president Ron James said in a news release. "Coach Brown will be able to mentor the young players on our team and instruct the veterans as someone who has played the game of Arena Football at a very high level."

Brown started his AFL career with the Orlando Predators for two seasons. In 2006, he joined the Philadelphia Soul for three seasons, during which he played defensive back a receiver and helped the team win an Arena Bowl. Last year with the Soul, Brown was second on the team in tackles and also had 8 interceptions.

Brown played college football at Charleston Southern.
