1. Stanford (6-0, 4-0)

The Cardinal are one of the nation's best defensive teams, which is amazing considering they've been playing without their best defensive player, injured linebacker Shayne Skov.

2. Oregon (5-1, 3-0)

The Ducks would be on top if not for injuries to running back LaMichael James and quarterback Darron Thomas, though they won't need 'em against Colorado this week.

3. Washington (5-1, 3-0)

The Huskies have scored at least 30 points in each of their first six games for the first time in school history, but now put their show up against the best defense in the league.

4. Arizona State (5-2, 3-1)

Looking good for awhile, the Sun Devils reverted against elite competition to their characteristically undisciplined play. Good thing they're in the mediocre South Division.

5. USC (5-1, 3-1)

The Trojans head into the first night game at Notre Dame since 1990 looking like they might have to improvise in the run game, with running back Marc Tyler injured.

6. UCLA (3-3, 2-1)

The Bruins have the kind of schedule that could lend itself to a strong finish, presuming their battered corps of quarterbacks can survive all the hits it's having to take.

7. Cal (3-3, 0-3)

The Golden Bears have terrific receivers, a usually decent run game, stiff defense and nearly the league lead in time of possession. So what's wrong? Turnovers and special teams.

8. Utah (3-3, 0-3)

The offense isn't much of an attraction, but the defense led by linebacker Chaz Walker ranks second in the league behind Stanford by allowing just 20.5 points and 326.5 yards per game.

9. Washington State (3-3, 1-2)

Quarterback Jeff Tuel is back in the lineup after a shoulder injury, and the Cougars are just 19 points away from eclipsing the 235 that they scored all of last season.

10. Arizona (1-5, 0-4)

The Wildcats had a week off to adjust to the firing of coach Mike Stoops, but will the new feel-good, let's-just-have-fun approach of interim coach Tim Kish make them any better?

11. Oregon State (1-5, 1-2)

The Beavers are so bad that somebody keyed cornerback Jordan Poyer's car and left a nasty note about all the losing. Just as bad? Six more players on the injured list.

12. Colorado(1-6, 0-3)

And now running back Rodney Stewart and linebacker Douglas Rippy are hurt? Geez, what else will go wrong for the Buffs? Oh, right … the Ducks are coming.
