College football: Southern Utah's Blake Fenn, Colton Cook earn conference honors

Cedar City • Southern Utah linebacker Blake Fenn has been named the Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week following the Thuunderbirds' stunning 41-16 victory over UNLV on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, SUU kicker Colton Cook was selected as the league's Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Rebels.

Fenn, a senior from Union High School in Roosevelt, had nine tackles in the game. He also intercepted a pass and returned it 22 yards for the go-ahead touchdown on the first play of the second half.

Cook, a sophomore from Viewmont High in Bountiful, was 2-for-2 on field goals. He made a 35-yarder to open the Thunderbirds' scoring and added a career-long 40-yarder in the fourth quarter to give SUU a 27-10 lead.

Southern Utah (3-1) opens Great West Conference play Saturday afternoon against North Dakota at Eccles Coliseum. —
