Game of the Week not named Utah-BYU

The Washington Huskies play Nebraska for the third time in a year, meeting the No. 10 Cornhuskers as a 17-point underdog in Lincoln.

The Cornhuskers beat UW in Seattle during the regular season last year, but the Huskies earned revenge with a 19-7 win in the Holiday Bowl. Now, the Huskies rank seventh nationally by allowing just 43 rushing yards per game, but the Cornhuskers average 224 rushing yards per game.

Flying high

Last season, only three teams in all of Division I — Boise State, Stanford and Wisconsin — completed at least 70 percent of their passes.

But after two games this season, the Pac-12 has four teams doing so: Stanford, USC, Arizona State and Arizona. The Wildcats have completed 76.3 percent, for an average of 405 yards per game.

The surprising Cougars

The Pac-12 has three teams in the top 10 nationally in scoring … but who would have guessed that Washington State would be on top?

1. Washington State • 61.5

2. Georgia Tech • 56.0

3. Arkansas • 51.5

4. Stanford • 50.5

South Carolina • 50.5

6. Baylor • 50.0

Texas Tech • 50.0

8. Oklahoma State • 49.0

9. Oregon • 48.0

Florida State • 48.0

Quarterback update

Both Oregon State and UCLA continue to search for answers at quarterback.

Coach Mike Riley said his Beavers will go with redshirt freshman Sean Mannion as the starter, in place of junior Ryan Katz - injured running back Malcolm Agnew isn't expected back until after the upcoming bye week, incidentally - while coach Rick Neuheisel said that season-opening starter Kevin Prince will be back in the mix for the Bruins against Texas this week if he's fully recovered from a concussion and shoulder injury.

Neuheisel also said Richard Brehaut didn't dazzle in a win over San Jose State, and heralded freshman Brett Hundley is not quite ready to play.

Keeping quiet

Just like former Utah basketball coach Jim Boylen quit taking the microphone to address fans after games, UCLA's Rick Neuheisel has stopped doing so after making a postgame tradition at the Rose Bowl the past three years.

Neuheisel said it didn't have anything to do with being booed during the speech that followed the loss to USC that concluded a 4-8 season last year. "It became a distraction," he told the L.A. Daily News. "The media was making it more about me and my conversation."

Top performers

• Receiver Paul Richardson of Colorado caught 11 passes for a school-record 284 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-33 overtime loss to Cal.

• Quarterback Darron Thomas tied a school record by throwing for six touchdowns for Oregon in its 69-20 victory over Nevada.

• Defensive tackle Everrette Thompson blocked two extra-point attempts and made three tackles and a sack for Washington in its 40-32 home victory over Hawaii.
