Woods Cross • They're back.

The Mountain View Bruins advanced to the 4A state championship soccer game for the fourth time in five seasons after bouncing Highland 3-0 at Woods Cross High School.

The Bruins will play Mountain Crest on Thursday at Rio Tinto Stadium, where Mountain View last played for a state championship in 2009.

"I heard magic happens there," sophomore Edgar Cordova said.

Cordova scored on a corner kick in the 62nd minute to put the Bruins up 2-0, and in the 73rd minute, Chris Reyes put in the final goal.

"The second goal is a comfort zone," said goalkeeper Keegan Black. "You get that third goal, and you start putting in your subs."

Black recorded his seventh shutout of the season. The Rams, the No. 3 seed from Region 6, struggled to get shots against Mountain View's defense. A championship appearance will be a surprising conclusion to Mountain View's year, after the Bruins finished 14-5 and third in Region 7.

But coach Mark Graham said the Bruins were at their best Tuesday.

In the 30th minute, the Bruins took the lead on a goal by Josue Cisnernos, but it wasn't until Cordova tacked on another that Mountain View had any separation.

"The game was a lot closer, up to that point," Graham said. "Once we got that, there were a lot more chances."

Mountain Crest 2, Dixie 1 (OT) • Mountain Crest had already beaten the defending 4A champions and won two tournament road games. What could the Mustangs do for an encore?

How about advance to the championship at Rio Tinto Stadium — in overtime, no less?

Sophomore Daniel Flores scored the game-winner in the 89th minute to beat Region 9 No. 1 seed Dixie 2-1 in the 4A semifinal.

"I really wanted to score because we had to work so hard just to make it to the finals," Flores said.

As the No. 3 seed from Region 5, the Mustangs weren't expected to last through the first round — in which they won against last year's champion, Lehi — let alone reach the title game.

On Tuesday, Dixie took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute on a goal by Trenton Truman, but Mountain Crest's Kaden Clark answered in the 58th minute.

"Going into the overtime," Mustangs coach Mike Gurney said, "we knew it was going to be a matter of time before we got another one."
