soccer • Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando was selected to the U.S. roster for next month's Gold Cup on Monday, along with former RSL teammate Freddy Adu.

Adu, who plays for Rizespor in Turkey's second division, was named to coach Bob Bradley's roster for the first time in almost two years.

The Americans have a June 4 exhibition in Foxborough, Mass., against Spain, followed by the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the championship of North and Central America and the Caribbean. The U.S. opens group play June 7 in Detroit against Canada.

Penn State coach sets sail for Navy

college basketball • Coach Ed DeChellis, who led Penn State to the NCAA tournament this year, resigned Monday to take the vacant job at Navy. DeChellis replaces Billy Lange, who resigned earlier this month following a second straight losing season.

Judge tells league to meet deadline

NFL • A federal magistrate in Minneapolis has rejected the NFL's request for more time to file a response in the pending antitrust lawsuit filed by its locked-out players. U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeanne Graham ruled Monday that the NFL must answer by June 6. The league had asked for a July 6 deadline to answer a lawsuit filed by current players but since amended to included complaints from retirees.
