Las Vegas, Nev. • Southern Utah's Thunderbirds improved to a record-best 16-2 in women's tennis Friday night with a 6-1 victory over Cal State-Bakersfield.

SUU picked up wins at doubles and first-through-fifth singles without losing a set in any of those matches. Doubles proved to be competitive, however, as CSUB took the Thunderbirds to 13 games in each before falling by twin 8-5 scores.

Ksusha Nazarova and Olia Tatarchenko prevailed against Julian Mannis and Estefania Limpias at No. 1, while Danica Ingwaldson and Afton Staheli outlasted Julie Hutton and Gabriela Horton at No. 3. At No. 2, SUU's Alex Ivanova and Kirrily Burden had an easier time with Ashlee Thorneycroft and Veronica Dimas, winning by an 8-1 count.

SUU hosts Idaho State on Monday in its final match before heading to Ft. Wayne, Ind., next weekend for the Summit League championships.
